Song of the Drone 2019
Drones are often seen as lazy bees that consume all the honey stores, serving only one purpose: to inseminate the queen. However, some believe that they also play a role in timing, acting as the 'Barometers of the hive.' Others view them as keepers of the brood, providing warmth to the young bees. In this sound installation, I pay tribute to the male bees, creating a piece that includes ceramic hives, human and insect voices, healing 'bhasma,' and wax-impregnated sack cloth. Through this work, I hope to shed light on the misunderstood and often overlooked role of drones in the hive.
