Mars and Venus
My artistic journey with bronze and iron began during a two-week residency at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop, Lumsden in 2018. It was there that I was inspired to create a series of cast sculptures - three in bronze and three in iron. The first week was spent meticulously crafting sand moulds from plasticine prototypes, pouring my heart and soul into each step of the process. As I worked in the foundry, the heat and energy of the molten metal sparked within me, igniting a creative fire that burned bright. The cast sculptures were only the beginning, as the processes I carried out in the foundry also inspired a range of drawings, prints, and mixed media works. This body of work represents the culmination of my time at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop, a celebration of the beauty and power of bronze and iron.
